GoGIN II Project's Participation at the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce Event on Maritime Sector Financing
On October 17-18, the Gulf of Guinea Interregional Network II project was invited to a major event organized by the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce in Abidjan, focusing on financing the maritime sector in Africa. This gathering brought together experts and key decision-makers, creating a platform to explore the challenges and opportunities facing Africa’s maritime industry.
Olivier Bichon, a Capacity Building Expert with GoGIN II, participated in a panel discussion on the impact of new technologies on the maritime sector. A key focus was the real-time application of the YARIS platform, which generates automated maritime images to monitor and illustrate illegal activities. This technology was demonstrated with a case study involving a refrigerated cargo vessel suspected of transshipment activities with fishing vessels in Ivorian waters.
Through these initiatives, the GoGIN II project continues to play a crucial role in promoting maritime security and sustainable development in Africa, underscoring the importance of integrating advanced technological solutions to combat illegal activities at sea.
