The project, led by a joint venture between the port authority and the Port of Antwerp‑Bruges International, has appointed consulting firm ASCELA to steer this transformation.
Why the buzz? Cotonou’s strategic coastline makes it the gateway to land-locked neighbours like Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali — so enhancing its infrastructure naturally boosts trade and industry across the region. The Africa Logistics Zone will bring together modern warehousing, smart logistics systems and multi-modal transport to streamline the flow of goods, add value and support regional industrialisation.
ASCELA is positioned as the key adviser, bringing expertise in infrastructure, logistics optimisation and sustainable design. Their role is not just about building things — it’s about crafting the ecosystem for long-term growth.
Of course, the ambition is big and the stakes are high. The project aims to make Cotonou a competitive logistics centre for West Africa — reducing cost, improving speed, attracting investment, creating jobs and linking supply chains in smarter ways. The road ahead involves integrating new facilities and technologies while aligning public & private actors behind a shared vision.
