Modern trains to operate the Tema-Mpakadan railway line in Ghana

The Tema-Mpakadan railway route in Ghana is set to experience a significant transformation with the introduction of new trains. This development marks a significant milestone that is part of the multi transport system from the Tema port to the southern part of Ghana and to the inland port in the northern part of Ghana.

These state-of-the-art trains are expected to revolutionize Ghanaian travel and courier services by offering a safe, reliable, and affordable transportation option for both passengers and goods. The modern facilities, comfortable seating, and superior onboard amenities are set to provide an enhanced travel experience.

The impending train service also heralds a new era of convenience, efficiency, and connectivity for passengers traveling between Accra and Mpakadan. The line is slated to run six round trips per day, with three in the morning, one in the afternoon, and two in the evening. This precedes a broader vision to enhance the country’s transportation network, offering much-needed relief for road commuters by alleviating congestion and reducing carbon emissions.

The operationalization of the 97km Tema-Mpakadan route marks a significant step towards unlocking vast opportunities for international trade, commerce, and tourism in Ghana. This is especially in anticipation of the Ghana-Burkina interconnectivity line (about 1000 km).

The first batch of 12 of these trains, assembled in Poland, has been handed over to the Ghana government at a ceremony held in Poland on the 2nd of February. The trains have now arrived in Ghana.

In conclusion, the introduction of these new trains on the Tema-Mpakadan route is a testament to Ghana's commitment to enhancing its transportation infrastructure. It is a significant stride towards a future where rail development acts as a catalyst for enhanced connectivity, economic growth, and sustainable progress across Africa.

While the infrastructure keeps steadily growing in Ghana with these types of incentives, R&C Desk is proud to be your ECTN partner for all of the neighbouring countries such as Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso & Togo.
